Had a rough day? Here are 17 things you can do to relax in 5 minutes or less!
I made this list because I know what it feels like to be overwhelmed by emotions but not have enough time to do anything about it.
The list consists of some of my favorite things that you can even do during your lunch breaks for a quick de-stress session!
Read on to find out more what you can do to feel better in an instant!
1. Play with your pet
Or if you don’t have a pet, go for a walk in the park – there will be plenty of dogs to pet!
Here’s a video of me playing with my cat Leo. Needless to say, I immediately felt better after spending a few minutes around him.
2. Play your favorite song (and dance to it!)
I often like to start my mornings by playing some loud music and dancing to it. You can do this any time of the day when you need a quick mood boost.
Turn the volume up and dance like no one is watching!
3. Do a quick mindfulness meditation
There are at least a dozen of great apps to help you meditate on the go. Optionally, you can pick something from YouTube.
Just plug your headphones and drift off for a few minutes. You’ll instantly feel refreshed.
Do a brain dump of the things that bother you. Grab a piece of paper and write down all of your worries, no matter how small they seem.
You’ll forget about most of them in a minute.
5. Take a hot shower
Hot baths take time – and luckily for you, hot showers don’t.
Don’t forget to wash with your favorite shower gel for the ultimate experience.
6. Do 15 Jumping Jacks
Or any other cardio activity to get yourself moving.
Endorphins will rush through your bloodstream right before you know it.
7. Have a hot drink
You know how people in the movies always have some hot chocolate whenever having a bad day? Hollywood may be onto something here.
You could also prepare yourself some warm milk or a cup of tea. Thank me later!
8. Open the window
I don’t think anyone ever felt bad from a bit of fresh air and direct sunlight. While you’re at it, take a few moments to simply stare out of your window and do nothing.
For some reason, this feels so calming to me.
9. Count to ten
And don’t forget to breathe meanwhile. Nothing is as bad as it seems in the moment.
10. Go for a walk around the neighborhood
Put on your walking shoes, grab your sunglasses and hit the road.
Even a walk around the block is more than enough. The fresh air and the act of walking itself are enough to help you de-stress.
11. Call your best friend
Or call your mom. You don’t even have to tell them something’s wrong.
Often times, hearing the voices of those that we love the most is the most soothing thing ever.
12. Watch a funny video
Or pick some short video on YouTube. There are the ASMR videos. There are also a variety of videos on my channel.▶ http://bit.ly/BernadetteYoutube
Choose whatever you think might work best for you at the given moment and forget about your woes for a few minutes.
13. Try progressive relaxation
Don’t know what this is? It’s when you tense the muscles on your body with the goal of feeling relaxed in the end.
Squeeze, release, repeat. Feels good, huh?
14. Play with a stress ball
Stress balls don’t get enough credit if you ask me. Get a few of them and leave them at various spots – at the office, in your kitchen, in the car.
Whenever you feel irritated by something, play with your stress ball for a few minutes.
The difference will show right away.
15. Do a quick tidy-up
Decluttering the space around you has the magical power of decluttering your mind. No need to do a deep clean.
Sometimes, even the simple act of tidying up your desk or organizing that pile of clothes are good enough.
16. Eat some chocolate
Chocolate is never a good idea. And yes, there’s even the chocolate keto bark out there for all of you that don’t eat sugar!
Eat a bar and watch how your smile returns.
17. Count your blessings
Still having trouble calming down? Count your blessings.
When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile!
What do you like to do to relax?
